Well after 36 hours of sewing I am finally finished with the commissioned elephant quilt. Those that have made this quilt by Violet Craft were right when they said it would take anywhere from 25 to 45 hours.
She is all packed up and in the mail, going back to New York for a very special granddaughter who is passionate about saving the elephants. I hope she loves it as much as her grandma thinks she will. Only time will tell and I hope my customer let’s me know what she thinks.
You know when you either make a quilt or give a handmade quilt to someone, you rarely see their expression when they receive it. A picture of someone enjoying my work is worth more than money.
This week is going to be a week of giving quilts as thank you gifts. My brother has been out of work with an illness and to thank the people in his life that have helped him along the way we are giving them quilts.
My brother who is my biggest supporter thinks it great to give my quilts as gifts, lol, he really is a great brother who asks for a quilt for others and never for himself. I can’t wait to meet the special people in his life later this week. Let’s pray that the weather is nice and clear making the drive enjoyable.
Now on to something new and different.
This is my first year as an Island Batik Ambassador and with that many challenges are coming my way. Not just making a new project every month for the year, but also learning new technology.
You know how you have an idea and you make a plan but when it comes time to execute the plan, it all falls apart. We’ll that is what happened when I went to do my unboxing.
What is an unboxing you ask? Island Batik sent me two boxes of fabrics and notions and I am supposed to video myself opening the boxes and letting everyone know what I received.
My plan fell apart as soon as I opened the box. I went about trying to check off the items and figuring out what was what. I drove myself crazy and had to call in reinforcements. My sissy came out and we worked through the box together.
Next was the ring light, now that was funny. I put it together and my sissy started to get a handle on how to use it and the phone at the same time. She is a perfectionist, so let’s just say it took a while to get a handle on it.
Now it’s my time to speak and identify the products. I had this grand plan and after hours of trying to get things right and hearing my froggy asthma voice on the recording I decided to just make this first video a quick one. I will post it on the 18th so you can see for yourself. Check out how I totally forgot what the big purple bag was and my sissy had to help me out with my lines, lol.
The video is done, it was a learning process and hopefully with time and more practice we, and I mean we as we are a team, we will get better.
Now to start on my February challenge, let’s just say that I made it harder on myself than I needed to but that is par for the course when I am left along to do what I want.
Stay tuned for more information on the first challenge. 😂
