Violet Craft Elephant

Today is a rainy day for most of us in California, actually it is a storm weather warning kind of day so what better way to spend the day than to hunker down and get some sewing done.

I am working on a commissioned peace for someone who took the quilting cruise that myself and my fellow Certified Judy Niemeyer Instructor Carol Stanek from Georgia taught in September 2022. One of the ladies that took our paper piecing class wanted to do the Violet Craft Elephant for her granddaughter but didn’t think she could do it alone so she reached out to me from NY and asked if I would consider doing it for her.

My usual answer is sure, why not and I would normally do it for free but because it is a commissioned piece I jumped at the chance to make a little side money, like I didn’t have anything else on my plate like most quilters.

I am in the middle of doing the paper piecing, of the foundation units and sewing together the sections as I go, and most of all keeping track of how much time it takes me to do it.

The Violet Craft Elephant pattern is amazing and is going together like a dream. The only down fall that I see is that I have to cut each piece of fabric as I need it. Now that wouldn’t be that big of an issue but I am a Judy Niemeyer Certified Instructor, so I am used to having all of my pieces cut out before I sew, so then all I have to do is grab, sew and go.

This process is much more time consuming but at the same time the result is just as nice.

I am more than half way done and hope to have it done by Saturday night as I have a By Annie, Runs with Scissors class on Sunday and a Judy Niemeyer Bali Wedding Star class on Monday and I need to prep to teach those classes. No pressure right??

Then on Tuesday I need to do the unboxing for the Island Batik fabrics that I received in December and start on my new journey as an Island Batik Ambassador for 2023.

Stay tuned for some great new fabrics and projects to come.
